My Personal Producer Beat Site Review

As I’m continuing my beat site reviews, I’ve come across www.mypersonalproducer.com. Although the design is not as advanced as some of the other top ranking beat sites, the simplicity does have its advantages. I like the fact there is an opt-in subscription box that you don’t have to search the whole website to look for. So if I wanted to get informed of new beats, I can be sent an email.

I also noticed the site is using Google Adsense to monetize the site. While this is okay, I wonder if it takes away from the real purpose of the site. Once you click on those Google Ads, they take you away from the site which is not a plus unless your goal is to get more money from Adsense than selling beats.

While www.mypersonalproducer.com does use samples in their beats (which are creatively used), most of the beats have the same feel and almost the same BPM (Beats Per Minutes). As an emcee myself, I like to write to different types of beats and I rhyme at different speeds.

Checkout seems to be fairly simple and you do not need a membership to buy beats. This is good because some people just want to get their beats and get to work without the hassle of filling out a subscription form just to buy a beat.

As an alternative to www.mypersonalproducer.com, you should definitely check out www.Beats4aDub.com, for the latest beats and instrumentals.

R.I.P. Legendary Emcee Heavy D (1967 - 2011)

Last Thursday, Hiphop icon Heavy D made his transition. His passing came with a lot of mixed emotions ranging from denial to heartache to celebration. Heavy's music made you feel good. It made you want to dance and sing along. Male or female, none of that mattered. If you experienced the era of Hiphop called the "Golden Era", then you surely know his music.

We thank you for blessing us with so many musical jems.

Here's one for the road. We love you Heav!!!

The Alternative to www.JeeJuh.com

I’ve been following the guys at www.JeeJuh.com for a few years. They are definitely some real power players in the beat making game. I remember them initially from Soundclick and they grew to have their own site where they could have more control of how their beats were presented.

When you first enter www.JeeJuh.com you are not bombarded with advertisements. The music player is easily accessible and there are clear instructions on how to buy beats. You can listen to as many beats as you want and the beats are made by 3 different producers who cover a variety of genres.

I do like how JeeJuh.com has customized their music player so people can vote on their beats. They also have different prices for different formats such as .mp3, .wav, and fully tracked out versions. Many beat websites will not offer the tracked out version of their beats or the .wav format.

The check out process at www.JeeJuh.com was very simple and easy to use. They use Paypal to process their transactions so it is a site that can be trusted. They have special deals for customers who buy in bulk and sometimes they offer giveaways.

There are video testimonials on the site and they do have an opt-in subscriber box for people who want to be notified when new beats have been uploaded.

If you would like to by an exclusive beat there is a direct link in the toolbar at the top as well as a link to their FAQs, Forum, Blog, and their Featured Artists. There are also several places on JeeJuh.com were you can “Like” them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter. What was really cool was they were giving away a nice industry quality microphone on the site and while I was writing this review, they announced the winner and it was updated on their site via Facebook and Twitter.

Overall, the beats were good and the site was very user-friendly. I would recommend this site to anyone looking to buy beats online.

As an alternative I would also recommend Beats4ADub.com for artists who want to get the real ins and outs of the music business from someone who is not just selling beats but who has released albums and shared the stage with legendary artists like The Roots, KRS-ONE, and Talib Kweli. Anyone can sell you beats but not everyone can teach you the music business.

A Good Alternative to MakeHitMusic.com

One of the first things I noticed when I arrived at www.makehitmusic.com was how clean the beat site looked. It looked very professional and easy to use. It looks very well thought out and seems like a successful business model. I liked how your attention is called to buy beats at the very top of the website. Before I even heard any beats, I read the messages in the banner and I felt like I could be successful if I used these beats.

I listened to some of the beats on www.makehitmusic.com and they were music industry quality beats and just like their motto says, all you have to do is “just add vocals”. It was very easy to listen to the beats and instrumentals. They give you about a 60-second sample of each song. They also have different genres like Hip Hop, Pop, and R&B.

The prices are very affordable. There are different prices and they even have free beats. MakeHitMusic.com has a massive catalog of beats by many producers. It’s a win-win-win situation for their members because the producers benefit as well as the artist and MakeHitMusic.com itself.

I did notice it was hard to find the subscription box for the site. They have a “join us” link in the top right corner which is in red. The benefits of becoming a member are not expressed clearly and you must become a member to buy a beat.

Also when I did go to buy a beat, the process had too many steps. You must definitely want the beat very much if you got through their process. I’m not saying it’s bad. I’m just saying it’s a lot to do. If you wanted to purchase exclusive rights to a beat, it seems like it’s a lengthy process. You can’t just click on a link and buy the beat exclusively like most beat websites. Some other beat selling sites offer combination deals also. I didn’t see this feature on www.makehitmusic.com.

One big thing that I liked was the ability to download their vocal recording software app to your smartphone if you have one. You can play their beats and add your own vocals right on your phone.

Overall though, the design alone makes me want to come back to MakeHitMusic.com. It’s really easy on the eyes and anyone can use it. The beats are good and plenty and they make it easy for new rappers and singers to use.

For a good alternative, I recommend www.Beats4ADub.com. Not only do you get industry quality beats but the checkout process is much smoother and you get to work with proven music industry veterans.

Hip Hop Music Is Timeless: Don’t Put an Expiration Date on Your Favorite Music

Music is an art and Hip Hop music is not only an art but a culture. Hip Hop artists should strive to make their music timely. Think of artists like the O’Jays, The Rolling Stones, and The Isley Brothers. They have been making music for many, many years and what if someone would have told them they could only make music until they were 25 years old?

What if the world put a time limit on how long we could create art? Can you imagine Eddie Levert doing something other than making good music? What about Chuck D from Public Enemy or KRS-ONE? I can still enjoy a good show by De La Soul any day of the week.

These artists have been around for years and they are true to their craft. They put out good music consistently and they do not let anyone tell them when to stop doing what they love.

That love for what they are doing is the key ingredient to a successful career. When you start making music just to make some money or to satisfy a record label or whom ever, then you are on the way out. The people with long careers are passionate about their music. They are passionate about their fans. They are in touch with their fans and their fans are in touch with them.

Their music is not about winning awards or fancy marketing and promotions tactics. It is about making good music. Music they can be proud of…music that will stand the test of time and create a mental shift in the mind of the listener.

We will always remember the first time we heard a song from one of our favorite artists and when we hear it now it makes us feel a certain way. That is what artists should strive to do with their music. Then, the music will be memorable and timeless!

So what is the formula for making timeless music? It can be summed up in the following steps:
  1. Have a passion for your music
  2. Find a way to record and distribute your music
  3. Promote your music to as many people as possible
  4. Give great live performances
  5. Repeat Steps 1-4
Using this formula, any artist, Hip Hop or otherwise, should be able to record and distribute their own brand of timeless music as often as they want to. So what are you waiting on? Now is the time to get started creating a legacy for yourself and your music.

Eddie Meeks, RapBeatCreator.com, and More Goodies

Whassup Peeps?

I know its been a little while since I've hit you with some newness but have no fear! I always deliver. First up is my homeboy and longtime partner-in-rhyme Eddie Meeks. He's a got a brand new album dropping on June 21st called "Cappuccino's Unauthorized Records".

Truly a gem.

Now, of course I'm biased not only because that's my brother from another mother but I was fortunate to spit a couple of hot verses on the album too. But honestly, since I've known Meeks since '89, I'm am truly the best person to critique his work honestly and with 100% authority!

The verdict: Guilty!!!

Guilty of being a dope expression of pure Hiphop. Eddie has always been know for clever rhymes and a voice that's like thunder and he stays true to form on this album. This is 20 tracks of pure heat!

I've attached a link to the sampler so you can see for yourself. Like I always say, if you know me, then you know I know good music. The Cappuccino album definitely falls into the good music category.

People To Know: The Songwriters That Write The Hits Of Your Favorite Songs, Star On BRAVO's "Platinum Hit"

Whassup Peeps?

Most aspiring artists don't have any clue about songwriting and music publishing and how they together fuel the music business industry. Its an old system but it works...if you work it!

Successful artists who make it big are very rare. There are only so many Beyonce's, Whitney Houston's, Aretha Franklin's, Micheal Jackson's, R. Kelly's, etc. The thing that each one of these artists have in common is the song. Somebody has to write the song. Sometimes the artists themselves pen the song and other times it is someone or a team of writers we've never heard off.

People like Sean Garrett and The Dream come to mind as awesome songwriters who were "Go To" guys that wrote platinum songs before the world knew who they were. Songwriters get paid big money upfront and residual to write songs for artists.

BRAVO has a new show coming on called "Platinum Hit" which is about songwriters behind hit songs. Here is the link below to a video promoting the show.

Hiphop Appreciation Week 2011: This year's theme is Respect

Nuff Respect!!!

Did you know this week was Hiphop Appreciation Week 2011? Well if you want to learn more about the Hiphop Kulture in general you should definitely keep your ears to the street and eyes on your computer screens, TV's, posters, or whatever so you can get the latest info.

This year's theme is "Respect".

I think that's a good theme and I'm sure it can be applied in someone's life right now. But really, what is Respect? Aretha Franklin wrote a song about it. Here's a definition from Google Dictionary:

Verb: Admire (someone or something) deeply, as a result of their abilities, qualities, or achievements.
Noun: A feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.

As you can see, it is a verb (an action) and a noun (an idea) and they both share a common trait which is admiration.

To do this Truthfully, we must let our egos go at least for a little while and be genuine about what it is we like or admire about another Hiphoppa or people in general. Don't hate on someone because they have moved further along the success ladder than you.

Don't hate because your homegirl's artwork gets more compliments than yours. Yes there is plenty of competition in the Hiphop Kulture but at the end of the day we MUST learn how to R-E-S-P-E-C-T one another.

If you want to learn more about Hiphop Appreciation Week click on the link below:
